Experienced You Can Count On

There are countless qualities to look for when hiring an attorney. Naturally, you deserve someone who makes you feel supported from the first day you walk in for a consultation to the day your case closes and beyond. A law firm focused on solutions rather than unnecessary litigation is another important trait, though they should also be fully prepared to fight for you when your case demands it. The same is true for perspective, compassion, and responsiveness. But at the end of the day, the defining qualification everyone uses as the true measuring stick is a legal team’s collective experience.

Experience is the difference between uncertainty and confidence, adequate strategy and the right strategy, reacting to challenges versus anticipating them, and negotiating from a position of hope versus negotiating from a position of strength. And all too many times, experience is also the difference between winning and losing, and moving forward versus being stuck in the past.

Our Experience Sets Us Apart

At Nelson Law Group, PC, we provide experienced, solution-focused guidance to help you navigate your path forward with confidence and clarity. The best part is that our experience isn’t measured by one attorney or resume. It’s measured by the collective knowledge, courtroom skill, negotiation strategies, and client advocacy that comes from a legal team working together.

  • Over 200 years of combined legal experience under one roof
  • Decades of trial-tested courtroom knowledge
  • A rare multidisciplinary team of attorneys, board-certified paralegals, care focusess, mediators, divorce coaches, and support professionals working together toward solutions.
  • Diverse backgrounds in financial analysis, business, and banking
  • Negotiation strategies built on unmatched preparation
  • Relentless client advocacy
  • A genuine understanding of the challenges families face

An experienced legal team is likely to have far better knowledge of the interpretation and application of the law than one that has only just started off as a lawyer or is working with limited resources. Sometimes, you may find yourself in a tricky situation in your family law, probate, business dispute, or personal injury case, and in situations like these, an experienced team like ours at Nelson Law Group can bank on their years of service to help you move forward with confidence and clarity.

Our Experience Shows in Our Versatility

Different legal matters rarely operate in a vacuum. For instance, a client going through a contentious divorce process may have concerns that extend beyond child custody, support, and property division to include issues such as what to do with their family Trust or how to divide or even sell a shared business venture. Likewise, someone dealing with the aftermath of an accident may need guidance not only with filing a personal injury claim but also how that injury impacts their ability to operate their business moving forward and how their role might need to change. Nelson Law Group’s experience across a wide range of practice areas helps us consider the full scope of your unique legal circumstances. Our practice areas include:

  • Family law: A complex area of law that touches the very fabric of our personal lives. More than divorce, family law covers issues related to child custody and visitation, support, modifications, pre- and postmarital agreements, adoption, and more.
  • Civil litigation: Providing clear, strategic, effective, and experienced legal support for everything from business and contract disputes to personal injury claims and probate matters.
  • Estate planning: We ensure your wishes are carried out and that your loved ones are provided for by crafting comprehensive wills, trusts, powers of attorney, burial directives, and more.

In court, all lawyers likely have similar academic qualifications and the same legal books to fight their case from. What differentiates them from one another is their experience in the courtroom. Practicing law well is about understanding statutes, preparing strategy, and understanding the intricacies of each case. Someone with ample experience in the law will have a greater knowledge of the divorce process and family law in the state of Texas. Granted, not every legal matter ends up in front of a judge and jury. That said, Nelson Law prepares your case as if it could go to trial. And if and when it does, you will always have the right advocate in your corner. That level of preparation and thinking two and three steps ahead comes from decades of experience representing clients in a wide variety of legal matters. From filing motions and presenting evidence to examining witnesses and making persuasive legal arguments, our team understands the stakes involved with putting your legal future in the hands of a judge and jury.

Only a small percentage of filed civil lawsuits ever reach a courtroom. A single factor rarely drives the decision to resolve a case early. Instead, it is usually the result of several factors working together, each one nudging the parties toward a negotiated outcome. At Nelson Law Group, we approach negotiations with the same level of preparation we bring to litigation. And truth be told, many of our clients are better served by resolving disagreements through thoughtful negotiation, mediation, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. The key is knowing when compromise is appropriate and when standing firm is the better strategy. Our goals are to:

  • Understand the strengths of each case
  • Identify the challenges that may arise
  • Determine each side’s position and willingness to adjust
  • Find the outcome that best fits your goals
  • Negotiate a settlement or deal that works for everyone

Nelson Law Group is currently the only law firm in the area with a Certified Divorce Coach® on staff. A Certified Divorce Coach is a professional who has received specialized training that helps individuals work through the personal challenges associated with divorce. They do not provide legal advice or represent you in court. Instead, they help you manage the divorce process more effectively by focusing on preparation, organization, communication, decision-making, and personal goals. Divorce can elicit fear, anger, and uncertainty. A Divorce Coach can help you:

  • Manage emotional triggers
  • Make sound decisions
  • Maintain healthier habits
  • Reduce unnecessary legal expenses
  • Clarify a client’s thought processes
  • Improve communication skills
  • Prepare for your future beyond divorce

Paralegals who are board-certified in family law provide a level of knowledge, meticulous attention to detail, exceptional drafting skills, a proactive, personal approach to the law, and experience that goes beyond traditional legal support. For you, their advanced training and demonstrated experience mean you are working with a team of professionals who have developed a deeper understanding of the procedures, requirements, and complexities involved in traditional and high-net-worth family law matters. Our paralegals provide the following benefits:

  • Keep cases organized and moving forward
  • Ensure every deadline is met
  • Prepare and manage important legal documents
  • Support attorneys as they build effective legal strategies

Not every aspect of a court case is black and white. There are gray areas that can complicate determining the right course of action. For instance, each decision in a divorce case can define the course of your family’s future. This is especially true with children, who are often caught in a legal battle they did not start and cannot comprehend. You cannot take a chance on your law firm’s experience and competency, especially when the outcome of child custody, child support, alimony, and asset division is in question.

While a mediator can also be a lawyer, not all lawyers are mediators, and not all law firms have trained mediators on staff. Nelson Law Group bucks that trend by ensuring our clients know they always have the option to settle their legal dispute amicably. Our mediators do not provide legal advice, represent you in Court, set terms, or decide the outcome of your case. They are part of a broader alternative dispute resolution process where the goal is to settle common disputes between spouses outside of the courtroom (without litigation). Mediators help parties understand each other’s positions and needs while assisting them in coming up with a creative solution to their case.

Mediation is meant to be a good-faith negotiation, and when that day comes, choosing a mediator with experience is important. Cases that seem simple rarely are, and you need a mediator in your corner who can offer you an honest assessment to help you make the best choices for your case. If successful, and everyone remains open-minded, the mediator monitors the drafting of the binding agreement that will contain the essential terms of the final Court order. All parties will sign it before everyone leaves.

Just a few of their basic duties include:

  • Actively facilitating the negotiation process
  • Empowering clients to make their own decisions
  • Educating all parties on the process and available options
  • Keeping conversations in the mediation process confidential

In rare instances, the definition of experience in the legal world moves beyond specific years of practicing law and having a deep understanding of multiple practice areas and into lived experience, professional backgrounds, and exposure to complex situations. For instance, many members of our team have personal connections to the challenges families face, including experiencing divorce themselves or witnessing first-hand the impact of divorce on children. Others have bought and sold businesses, and, in some cases, watched those same businesses fold. Many of us have lost a loved one and faced probate head-on. Additionally, our experience includes handling a wide range of sensitive and complex matters, including cases involving contested Wills, child custody, domestic violence, blended families, abuse, and other high-conflict disputes. By combining legal ise with personal perspective, financial insight, and the ability to handle difficult situations, we are uniquely qualified to stand by your side.

These and many more personal and professional life experiences allow us to look beyond the immediate legal issue and consider the financial, personal, practical, and long-term implications of your situation.

  • Strategic communications
  • Insight into judicial decision-making Business ownership
  • Adoption strategies
  • Domestic violence cases
  • Protective orders
  • Finance
  • Guardianship
  • Accounts Receivable
  • Private practice
  • Court-appointed custody evaluations
  • Co-parenting
  • Psychological evaluations
  • Witness testimony
